Brackish Ponds Species Overview
When freshwater mixes with saltwater, the resulting salinities are referred to as brackish water. The levels of salt vary with rainfall, tidal movement and storm surge. There are many species of both fresh and saltwater species who can tolerate some levels of their opposite habitat. For example these brackish ponds may have both largemouth bass and redfish in the same area. Crabs, mullet, flounder, catfish and bluegill are just a few of the fresh and saltwater species that one may find mixed together in brackish ponds.
