About LDWF Family Fish Fests

LDWF Family Fish Fest events include a fishing competition, fishing instruction, shore fishing opportunities, interactive activities, educational displays, lunch, awards and prize giveaways. Whether you are new to the sport of fishing or an experienced angler, these events provide something for all ages and skill levels.

The first 50 registrants for each event will receive a complimentary rod and reel, and the first 100 youth registrants will receive a fishing goodie bag. In addition, every registered participant is automatically entered into raffle drawings for prizes! Events with an entry fee also include a t-shirt for each registered participant.

The fishing competition at each event includes divisions for all ages and fishing categories for multiple species, with a boat division at locations that have launch access. At all saltwater locations, live redfish and speckled trout will be tagged and released by LDWF biologists in conjunction with the Louisiana Cooperative Marine Fish Tagging Program.

Event participants must provide their own fishing equipment and bait. Events will begin shortly after sunrise and will conclude by noon. Click on event dates listed above for more information.

Volunteer With Us

Family Fish Fests are also made possible by the help of dedicated volunteers. Volunteering with LDWF provides an opportunity to share your passion for fishing and other outdoor activities with anglers of all ages and levels of experience. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please email the Fisheries Extension section at [email protected] OR click here to learn more about LDWF’s volunteer opportunities.

Sport Fish Restoration Program

The Fisheries Extension Outreach Program fosters responsible, licensed anglers by organizing community fishing events and developing opportunities for anglers to work as citizen scientists and participate in the conservation of Louisiana’s aquatic resources. The program promotes awareness of the Sport Fish Restoration Program, which utilizes angler support to help ensure the future of recreational fishing in Louisiana for generations to come.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation

The LDWF Family Fish Fest is hosted in conjunction with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation. The LWFF was formed to provide a means for individuals and corporations to become partners with the Department and Commission in the challenge of conserving Louisiana’s wildlife and fish resources.
