This widely distributed turtle is very common in Louisiana. Its most noticeable characteristic is the wide red to orange stripe behind the eyes. It has a brown to green shell with yellow edges and some black patterning. The plastron is yellow with black markings as well. The skin of the turtle is black with fine yellow stripes.

The Redear slider is native to the freshwater systems of the southern mid-western states. They have been widely distributed around the country and world because of their popularity in the pet trade.
