Body heavily spotted all the way to the tips of a slightly forked tail. Back usually dark olive transitioning to silvery-white underneath with a pink/red stripe running lengthwise along the fish’s sides.

Native to North America west of the Rocky Mountains from Alaska to Mexico. They have been introduced/stocked into most, if not all, states in the union.

Hot Louisiana summer temperatures prevent reproduction and, in most cases, over summer survival. Louisiana Rainbow Trout are primarily used in wintertime put and take fisheries where fish are stocked in small ponds for urban angler enjoyment.

Fishing Methods
Conventional Tackle under a bobber or tight lined using worms, marshmellows, powerbait, meal worms, crickets

Fly Fishing using nymphs, streamers, and dries as fish transition from a diet of pellet feed to natural food items available in ponds

An artificial lure that floats and has erratic action and splash when worked across the surface of the water. They often have a concave face which causes great commotion when “chugged” across the top. They simulate a bait struggling and the visual aspect of the bite is the best.

This is a multi-hook rig that has a main line and multiple dropper lines with small flies or lures. They are used to catch baitfish of many types by mimicking what the baitfish are eating. A weight is attached to the bottom and it is dropped or jigged into a school of baitfish often catching multiple fish at once. It is best fished on a “sabiki rod” designed to reel the rig and it’s many hooks inside the hollow blank of the rod, making it safer to store and always ready to deploy.
